Before joining the firm as an associate, Krystel clerked at SMGG while completing her J.D. at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she graduated cum laude. She managed complex immigration cases, handled filings for temporary protected status and humanitarian parole, and represented clients in immigration court. Her work focused on empowering foreign-born clients by helping them navigate cultural and linguistic barriers in the U.S. legal system.
Krystel brings a global perspective to her legal practice, informed by her extensive background in international relations and public policy. She earned a Ph.D. in International Relations and an M.A. in International Studies from Florida International University. Before moving to the United States, Krystel was the advisor to the Minister of Rural Development and Local Government in her country of origin, Trinidad and Tobago, where she led legislative initiatives, disaster relief coordination, and media relations.
Outside the office, Krystel is committed to community service and advocacy. She volunteers with the American Red Cross in Pittsburgh and has supported organizations such as Toys for Tots, Girls Inc., and Paws4You Pet Rescue. Her background in civic engagement, public service, and education reflects a deep commitment to helping others — whether through legal advocacy or community action.
