Jean E. Novak is a senior associate with the Pittsburgh office of Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky. With many years as in-house counsel, she understands the need for legal advisors to provide practical, affordable solutions for clients. She focuses her practice on labor and employment defense, advising clients on prevention of problems, and litigating cases when necessary.
Ms. Novak counsels employers on a myriad of issues that arise in the workplace context. She has represented a range of employers from steelmakers, coal companies, hospitals and retailers to quasi-public organizations such as school districts and government agencies.

While with a boutique law firm, she handled labor and employment issues as well as workers' and unemployment compensation defense for clients from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. For one non-profit client facing financial crisis and downsizing, Ms. Novak helped structure separation packages that were fair and equitable.
In her current practice, Ms. Novak has represented both businesses and executives in a variety of employment matters. She has successfully represented clients in the mediation of discrimination and overtime disputes. She has also successfully negotiated severance agreements and executive contracts. Ms. Novak is developing a small business practice aimed at preventing employment disputes before litigation becomes necessary.
