SMGG Wins $4.6 Million Jury Verdict in Business Dispute, Including $2.64 Million in Punitive Damages

On September 19, 2025, David Strassburger and Patrick Sherry secured a unanimous verdict in a complex limited liability company dispute tried in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny, Pennsylvania before a jury. The case involved a minority member “squeeze-out” from an entity holding a permit to operate medical marijuana dispensaries in Western, Pennsylvania.

After a two-week trial, the jury returned a total award of $4.6 million in favor of our client, which included $2.64 million in punitive damages. This verdict reaffirms the jury’s determination that the defendant permit holder’s conduct was outrageous and malicious warranting both compensatory and punitive relief.

This tremendous outcome demonstrates our firm’s exceptional ability to navigate complex corporate and commercial disputes, protect our clients’ ownership and financial interests in the most dire of circumstances, and successfully advocate for them in high-stakes litigation.
