Shareholder Gretchen Moore Named eDiscovery Special Master in Western District of Pennsylvania

Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky Vice-President Gretchen Moore was recently named an eDiscovery Special Master by the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania Board of Judges and now resides on a short list of attorneys with expertise in eDiscovery who can serve in this capacity.

A Special Master is an attorney appointed by the court to carry out some sort of action on behalf of the court, which may include, by way of example, developing protocols for the preservation, retrieval or search of potentially relevant ESI; developing protective orders to address concerns regarding the protection of privileged or confidential information; monitoring discovery compliance; and resolving discovery disputes. Special Master appointments in the Western District of Pennsylvania typically occur in class actions, multi-district litigation, intellectual property litigation, and other large and complicated cases.

“Becoming a special master is a huge opportunity for Gretchen and SMGG,” says SMGG President David Strassburger. “Very few attorneys receive this recognition by the Board of Judges and understand as much about the nuance of eDiscovery as Gretchen.”

Gretchen is a certified e-discovery specialist through the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (“ACEDS”). She is actively involved in SMGG’s legal technology research and development, particularly in the areas of data management and discovery. She is chair of the firm’s eDiscovery Committee. Ms. Moore previously served as the Secretary of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Women in eDiscovery for three years.

Join us in congratulating Gretchen on her appointment as a Special Master.
