On September 28, the Allegheny County Department of Health unanimously passed the revised Paid Parental Leave legislation. The policy now goes to County Council for consideration.

Just a reminder of what is included in the policy headed to County Council:

  • Leave Period – Up to 12 weeks, taken within the first year of birth or adoption.
  • Employer size – Employers with 15 or more regular full- or part-time employees.
  • Employee Eligibility – Employees must work at least six months and 625 hours to
    qualify.
  • Stillbirths Added – Employees may take leave for stillbirths.
  • Effective Date – Six-months after the bill becomes law, with an additional six-month grace period available in certain circumstances.

If County Council also passes the legislation, the effective date will be in 2027. In the meantime, we’re here to help. Contact Jean Novak at jnovak@smgglaw.com if you have questions.
