Robert D. Kaufman is an Associate Attorney at Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky who represents individuals, businesses, and local governments both inside and outside the courtroom. Robert is a practiced attorney who counsels clients in the arenas of employment law, civil litigation, municipal law, and land use.
Robert is devoted to serving his community and brings a broad range of know-how to his SMGG clients. Robert is an experienced litigator who represents clients in the context of employment, complex commercial, and real estate litigation and has successfully advocated for his clients through the intricacies of appellate briefing and argument.
While Robert has extensive experience in the context of civil litigation and appellate practice, his practice extends beyond the courtroom. Robert has substantial experience advising and counseling local government agencies on municipal law, zoning, and land use, and he uses his litigation experience to provide practical, business-oriented guidance to employers, non-profit organizations, and businesses on a variety of employment matters.
Robert graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law cum laude. During his time at Pitt Law, Robert was a finalist in the Appellate Court Competition and served as Managing Editor of, and a student note contributor to, the University of Pittsburgh Law Review. Before joining SMGG, Robert also gained valuable practical experience interning with the Honorable D. Michael Fisher of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
As a Pittsburgh native, Robert is dedicated to serving his hometown through his pro bono work and community involvement. As a global citizen and lawyer, he is actively involved in serving the wider national and international community. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund’s Name Change Project and online legal news service JURIST throughout law school, and he continues to use his extensive legal and non-legal skills in the service of others.
Robert is accustomed to discipline, meticulous preparation, and flawless delivery. As a professional cellist, he has performed for audiences internationally. When he is not hard at work for his SMGG clients, he can often be found playing or teaching music.
