Mr. Barber is an experienced trial lawyer who concentrates on media and First Amendment law, personal injury and professional malpractice, and commercial litigation.
Community Activities – In addition to his work as a lawyer, Mr. Barber has provided active support to community and charitable organizations, such as the Alzheimers Association, the United Way of Allegheny County and the Scouting for Food program of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. He has held leadership roles with non-profit groups that focus on making legal services available to disadvantaged individuals and communities, such as serving as a Director of Neighborhood Legal Services Association; as Legal Affairs Vice Chairman for the Anti-Predatory-Lending Project of the Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group; and as a member of the Legal Committee of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. Mr. Barber is currently serving as President of the century-old Pittsburgh Chess Club, Inc.
Professional Activities – Mr. Barber served for several years as law clerk to the Honorable Ronald W. Folino of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. He also has taught high school history, and college and graduate media law and ethics, providing him with unique perspective on human nature and the foundations of the American legal system.
He holds both his bachelor of arts degree (magna cum laude, 1983) and law degree (cum laude, 1988) from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Barber is a native of Tacoma, Washington.
