Erica L. Laughlin is a director with the Pittsburgh office of Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky.

During her career, Ms. Laughlin has successfully handled matters for both plaintiffs and defendants in both state and federal court, and her areas of practice encompass a wide range of both civil and commercial litigation for individuals and businesses including: personal injury claims, premises liability claims, professional malpractice claims, insurance defense, civil rights defense and municipal law.

Representative matters Ms. Laughlin has worked on include several multi-million dollar disputes including a dispute among board members and lending institutions related to a prominent hotel chain; a dispute among board members related to the investment in a technology start-up company; a professional malpractice claim related to the purchase of oil and gas rights; and a dispute involving a major coal company. Ms. Laughlin has also worked on matters involving the Political Subdivision Tort Claims Act, matters related to government contracts involving both PennDOT and the Port Authority of Allegheny County and multiple matters for several municipal insurance pools and insurance companies.

Professional and Community:
Ms. Laughlin began her career with Strassburger McKenna in 2004 when she joined the firm as an Associate, and became a Director in 2012. Ms. Laughlin enjoys the diversity in her practice, and believes the firm provides its clients with expertise and a high quality level of representation, but with a personal attention that fosters lasting relationships.

She was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in October 2004. She was certified to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in December 2004.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Inns of Court and the American Association for Justice.

Ms. Laughlin received her law degree in 2004 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. While in law school, she earned a certificate in the John P. Gismondi Civil Litigation Certificate Program. She also received an award for trial advocacy, sponsored by the Institute for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction.

In 2001, Ms. Laughlin graduated magna cum laude from Duquesne University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both journalism and psychology.

She serves as a Lector for her local parish St. Richards Catholic Church in Gibsonia, and is a founding Board Member of the non-profit organization Expressions in Harmony, which serves to provide financial aide and support to women and children in need.

Family and Personal:
Ms. Laughlin, is a native of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, in Westmoreland County. She presently resides in Gibsonia, a suburb of Pittsburgh, with her husband Nicholas Laughlin.

Ms. Laughlin has a love for theater and the arts, a passion for travel and is an avid runner having completed over 15 Half-Marathons and 2 Triathlons.
